Vacancy Short Description : Position would be working under mostly one off builds to craftsman standards operative learning all aspects of bricklaying and general construction work. Work will be varied.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades 9- 4 for an Advanced Apprenticeship and 9-3 for an Intermediate. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, may be offered an appointment to come into college (Ipswich or Suffolk Rural (Otley) campus) and sit an online assessment to confirm program suitability.
Vacancy Full Description : Duties, tasks and training will cover the following:
Working on a construction site to given specifications,
Setting out basic structures,
Building brick and block walling,
Laying domestic drainage,
Placing and finishing concrete and render surfaces
Measuring the work area and setting out the first of bricks (courses) and damp course
Mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
Laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
Shaping and trimming bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools Checking that courses are level using water or laser spirit levels
Complete apprenticeship framework in line with individual learning plan The outlined duties may vary from time to time without materially changing either the character or level of responsibility

Working Week : Mon-Fri 7.30am-5pm 20-minute break at 10am and 30-minute lunchbreak at 1pm
Salary : £ 172.00 (Weekly)

Training to be Provided : The Apprentice is equipped with theoretical knowledge combined with practical hands-on experience that leads to a nationally recognised qualification. They will attain a range of experience in their job role working on a construction site, to given specifications, setting out basic structures, building brick and block walling, laying domestic drainage placing and finishing concrete and render surfaces.
Other Information : Working outdoors in all weathers and manual work. Need to be able to travel/organise your own transport to and from place of work and arrive promptly at the agreed times.
Please note: £170 is based on a weekly apprentice wage for 40 hours however wage is age dependent starting at more than the minimum wage and increasing with experience and ability - this will be discussed further at interview.
