Vacancy Short Description : The Club is looking to recruit one apprentice to join its dynamic Greenkeeping team for a 22 month period. The candidate must be enthusiastic, hard working and happy to work in all weathers. If you have an interest in golf and enjoy being outside, then this could be the job for you.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and maths at grades 9- 4 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship and 9-3 for a Level 2.
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: All applicants regardless of entry requirements will be emailed an Initial Assessment to complete as part of the recruitment procedure. This is an online assessment in English and maths and can be completed at your preferred location remotely. Currently, due to COVID19 we are not offering Initial Assessment appointments at either campus. Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, will be offered further advice and guidance to support their application if required.
Vacancy Full Description : This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in starting a career in the sports turf industry working with a team of experienced greenkeepers at one of the top golf courses in Suffolk.
Responsibilities will include:
Preparing playing surfaces for daily play, mowing of surfaces, raking bunkers, hole changing, aeration work, over seeding, golf course construction and conservation work.
Through this period, you will gain experience of machinery operation and maintenance.
You will be mentored by the Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper and Senior Greenkeeper.

Training to be Provided : A Golf Greenkeeper is responsible for the maintenance, care and overall appearance of a golf course in line with employer’s requirements. It is their job to maintain a good quality playing surface and ensure the course offers a consistent challenge and an enjoyable experience for golfers.
There are four key turfgrass areas on a golf course – greens, tees, fairways and areas of rough, each of which requires a different type of maintenance. Using a range of equipment and machinery safely and competently will play a major part within an apprentices training programme. Golf Greenkeepers will also be involved in hazard, environmental and ecological operations which may include bunker maintenance, planting turf, trees, shrubs and developing wildlife habitats. The skills required to become a competent greenkeeper will be acquired whilst working on the golf course.
By the end of the programme, the apprentice will know when, how and why the range of maintenance operations are carried out.
A Golf Greenkeeper must be able to:
Maintain good standards of health and safety for self and others
Preparing the golf course for play which will include removing early morning dew and debris from the greens, raking bunkers, moving tee markers, cutting new holes on greens
Preparing and using equipment and machinery to maintain and renovate all turf surfaces within the golf course, including the use of tractors, ride-on machines, and specialist equipment
Apply turf treatments to help produce quality playing surfaces, including fertilisers and top dressing
Using a variety of integrated methods to control weeds, fungal diseases, pests and turf disorders
Maintain and renovate bunkers and other hazards such as water features
Maintain drainage and irrigation systems
Preparing ground to establish turf and plants when maintaining, renovating and constructing golf course features
Other Information : This is a physical role where you will be expected to work outdoors in all weathers. As a top member’s golf club in the area, you will be expected to adhere to a good level of etiquette. As you develop during the course the expectation will be that you will require a mature approach to operating machinery.
