Vacancy Short Description : We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in gardening. No two days are ever the same in this job. You will work under a very experienced gardener who will pass on lots of important skills. All previous apprentices have gone on to careers in horticulture.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades 9- 4 for an Advanced Apprenticeship and 9-3 for an Intermediate. Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, may be offered an appointment to come into college (Ipswich or Suffolk Rural (Otley) campus) and sit an online assessment to confirm program suitability.
Vacancy Full Description : An apprentice gardener will work alongside our experienced gardener. They will be required to mow grass, prune shrubs, use mechanical hedge cutters, rotavators, strimmers and lawn mowers. Other duties will include watering, weeding and propagating.
We garden over at least three sites (holiday lets on our farm) as well as looking after the church yard and verges in the village.
At Little Bradley Hall we run a wedding venue so you will help in getting ready for approx. 20 weddings a year. Attention to detail is very important as we are required to keep the garden looking immaculate.
Number of Positions Available : 2
Working Week : You will work Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with a 20 minute break in the morning and an hour for lunch.
Salary : £ 145.25 (Weekly)

Personal Qualities : The applicant should like being outside all year round. Be able to take instruction and work in a team or independently. Attention to detail is important as well as good time keeping and a sense of humour. Non-smoker preferred.
Skills Required : Good leaner, physically strong, able to take direction, have good attention to detail. Ask if you don’t understand what is being asked of you. Good time keeping is essential. Driver would be helpful to get around different locations.
Future Prospects : A permanent full time position may be available at the end of the apprenticeship for the right person. We may offer to pay for training in spraying and chain sawing.
The starting wage could be increased depending on age and any previous experience
Training to be Provided : Horticulture/Landscape Operative Standard, Emergency First Aid at Work, Safe use of Pesticides, Functional Skills maths and English
Other Information : Even when it’s raining you will be expected to be outside. Some of the jobs can be boring and repetitive but must be done to a high standard. A good attitude to learning is vital.
