Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and maths at grades 9- 4 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship and 9-3 for a Level 2.
For Greenkeeping applicants will also ideally have a GCSE in Science. (9-4/A-D)
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: All applicants regardless of entry requirements will be emailed an Initial Assessment to complete as part of the recruitment procedure. This is an online assessment in English and maths and can be completed at your preferred location remotely. Currently, due to COVID19 we are not offering Initial Assessment appointments at either campus. Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, will be offered further advice and guidance to support their application if required.

Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £4.15 per hour with effect from 1st April 2020. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. Job Activities
The activities undertaken will include:
1. General upkeep of all areas of the golf course including bunkers, pathways, ponds and riverbanks.
2. Set up golf course, including changing holes, moving tee markers, drop zones and hazards.
3. Carry out day-to day instructions and directions as given by the Head Greenkeeper or Assistant to the Head Greenkeeper.
4. Help operate the irrigation system.
5. Reporting back to the Head Greenkeeper on a daily basis with course conditions.

You will be responsible for:
1. Ensure the golf course is kept to a high standard at all times.
2. Dealing with all people you come in contact with during your working day in a courteous and professional manner.
3. Ensuring you wear all the protective clothing and footwear provided to carry out certain jobs.
4. Ensure all job activities are completed to a satisfactory standard and in a timely manner.
5. Ensuring that all duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety regulations as detailed in the Company rulebook.

Person Description
The person carrying out this role must:
1. Be willing to undertake tasks involving manual labour work outdoors all year round.
2. Have a minimum qualification NVQ Level 2 certificate in Sports and Amenity Turf Management, or City and Guilds equivalent. Note this is not essential.
3. Hold PA1, PA2A spray certificates. Note this is not essential.
4. Have knowledge of modern irrigation systems Note this is not essential.
5. Have knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides with their application and modes of action. Note this is not essential.
6. Be prepared to get ‘stuck in’ and be very much ‘hands on’.
7. Have a proven track record of working within a golf club/greenkeeper or landscaping environment.
8. Effectively manage own workload and work in an unsupervised environment.
9. Be reliable and willing to work flexible hours on occasions.

Future Prospects : For the right candidate who proves to be reliable, flexible on hours to meet business needs, along with the dedication to successfully complete the apprenticeship the long term prospects of a full time role with further training and development are excellent.
Training to be Provided : College Attendance: No College attendance
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks.
Other Information : Please see below for working hours:
Mondays and Thursdays 6.30am to 2pm with half an hour for lunch,
Tuesdays 6.30am to 3pm and half an hour for lunch.
Wednesdays and Fridays 6.30pm to 2.30 pm with half an hour for lunch and 6am to 9am either Saturday or Sunday makes a total of 40 hours per week.

Winter hours will be adjusted
